Switched to KDE4 !

So, following the recent announcement that kde4 was uploaded to unstable, and following the positive feedback from Christian Perrier, I decided to give kde 4 a try..

Ironically, I am exactly in the same context as when I opened this blog, to complain about the state of kde 4 back at that time...

So, I am quite satisfied by the current state. Clearly, it is usable, and most of the criticisms I had in the previous try are resolved now. Only the IRC plugin is still missing for Kopete. To me that is a REAL loss...

I will not detail here the pros and cons, but KDE 4 is now ready for consumption for me.. I am also quite enthusiastic by some of the improvements made with this release. The process of rewriting from scratch leads to important latency and bugfix in the release process, but this is clearly the only way to do deep improvements and changes. And this is the case here.

To conclude, I must thank the packaging team who did a great great job. Upgrading was straight forward, and the configuration migration was very useful.. Great work guys !
